FRIDAY 10 MAY | INSTORE EVENT
6pm for a 6.30pm start | 60 mins
Perhaps Italo Calvino said it best: A Classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say.
But what is your favourite classic? Which classics have you missed entirely? Which classics are an absolute must?
Come along to our Avid Reader Classics Happy Hour and fine tune your Classics reading list.
Join Fiona Stager and our panel of Classics Book Lovers for reviews of their selected classics and insights into the different ways classics endure. Gain insiders' knowledge of the classics our book clubs have loved best and argued over most valiantly.
A perfect Friday evening to come to on your own, with a friend or your bookclub, or as a special just for Mother's Day, select our Two-for-One offer and bring your Mum or Auntie (aka special older woman in your life) for free.
ABOUT THE PANEL
Jaclyn Knight is an ardent traveller, life-long learner and closet writer. When her head’s not in the clouds, or in a book, you’ll find her fangirling at Writing Festivals and author events, or riding and running laps around Brisbane. To pay the bills, she works as a management consultant, specialising in innovation and design geared towards positive social impact. Jaclyn’s love of books and a boisterous banter led her to the Avid Reader Book Clubs, where she has been an enthusiastic contributor to the High Noon, Her Voice, Australian, Daylight, Short on Classics and Sci-Fi events. She is now thrilled to be leading the discussions for the Short on Classics Book Club.
Laura Sweeney facilitates various Riverbend book clubs, though her favourite is the Classics Bookclub. She spent many years as a criminal lawyer before landing her ‘dream job’ at Riverbend. She has been a voracious reader for more than 50 years and her literary interests span all genres including history, politics and all types of fiction. She is fascinated by people and their stories and the power those stories have to help us understand ourselves and others and to make sense of the world. When she is not reading or talking about books you will find her in her garden.
Michaela Walsh wears many hats with great flair: Starting out as Avid Reader Social Media Manager, and adding Curated Subscriptions to her bow before taking on her current role as Where the Wild Things Are Manager. Michaela also took over the reigns of Avid Reader's Young & the Restless Bookclub, and initiated Avid's Young & Classic and Love Romance Book Clubs as well as Riverbend's new Young & Bookish Book Club.
Your $15 ticket includes the Classics Hour, prize draws and 10% off any purchases made on the night.
